Healthy Weight Loss with Healthy Food: You Are What You Eat!
Monday, June 27th, 2011You've most likely heard that you are what you eat. You may have thought it was just a phrase said by parents wanting their young ones to eat their vegetables but you actually are what you eat! If you munch on a tuna sandwich, the tuna is broken down and the amino acids (proteins) from it are used in your body to build muscle and new cells! Your physical appearance reflects the food you consume, and when you eat junk food you will observe that your complexion looks worse and you look plumper than you do when you eat healthier foods. Therefore, diet is the first place to start at when you are interested to lose weight. When your diet is consists of unhealthy foods, doing a lot of exercise won't help you. So now we'll take a look at what you must be including in your healthy diet to help lose weight. Of course, a chief goal is to reduce the number of calories you eat so you can lose weight, but you don't want to go overboard and get so hungry that you overindulge on junk food. It's a good idea to gradually alter your eating habits by slowly putting in healthy food and decreasing the number of calories you eat. Slowly add healthy meals and take out snacks and meals one at a time. Protein is the first thing to put in your weight loss diet. Protein is one of the major building blocks of your body and is necessary for a lot of body functions like building muscle and cell repair. It is easy to get enough protein by adding foods such as beef, chicken, pork, eggs, and soya products to your diet. Another important food group to include is carbohydrates. You need to be careful, though, not to overeat carbohydrates since any extra energy created by them merely turns into fat. Rather, choose more nutritious carbohydrates like whole grain bread and brown rice. And lastly, you'll be needing fats. Yes, while you're trying to lose weight and excess fat, your body still requires dietary fats. Opt for healthy fats like those found in nuts and fish. And don't forget to eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables as your body needs the vitamins and minerals.
Also know which foods you must not eat. Almost all of them are pretty apparent; avoid ingesting too much fat by eating lean cuts of meat and don't eat junk food as it contains too much calories of little nutritional value. Try not to eat processed (or simple) carbs (things like processed bread and pasta), go for complex and whole carbs, such as the brown rice mentioned above. Stay away from alcohol if you can as it has no advantageous value when you are trying to lose weight.
Now you know the foods that you need to and shouldn't consume. Look into several healthy choices to replace your current eating habits. If eating too much at one sitting is an issue, eat 5 to 6 smaller meals during the day so that your tummy will shrink and require less food.
